Our great sport

A thoroughly enjoyable NZ Trial this weekend, run by my local Canterbury Gundog Club was their last one of a busy season and brilliantly run on a cracking ground. There was no hunting element in this retriever test, but awesome retrieves from the Open class dogs (photo) were inspiring to watch and Mavis’s maiden run in Novice, (on a smaller hill πŸ˜‰) was promising after such a long break. Training on steep terrain on cold game will be a must and we are finding amazing variation in hunt training opportunities on wild game, it wont be easy but is a wonderful challenge.

As always, massive thanks to the hosts and organisers, congratulations to all winners and it is wonderful to find that wherever we go in the world there are people who love working their dogs and are generous, welcoming and kind - the quickest way to feel at home β€οΈπŸΎπŸ•

CGDC Open Retriever Land Test Two marked retrieves (right high and in gully) & blind (left high)

Mavis, confused by the steep ground and unexpected cold game learnt well and by the time we got to the water she understood the question 😊
